American Karate Studios was established in 1990 by the mother and son team of Marc & Nancy Shay. They started their training at the Broomall School in 1978, working their way up to instructors and then became owners. The school began primarily instructing in the art of Kenpo Karate, and now also offers Aikido, Tai Chi Chuan. Their goal is to offer a variety of Martial Arts so that everyone interested in training can find something to fit their needs.
Their classes cater to all ages, male and female, offering day and evening classes to accommodate a variety of needs and schedules. |

Marc and Nancy acquired the school from their instructor, with only 26 students and a dream. They now have over 150 students and are consistently adding new teachers and activities to enhance their already successful program. |

She has unquestionably stepped up to the plate in this male dominated sport, putting aside all notions that this activity is only for the young and powerful.
American Karate studios has always operated under the notion and morals that people come first, that honor is stronger than power and that all people are special individuals. No matter what! They begin and end every class with the time old adage, hand over fist, meaning scholar before warrior. Marc and Nancy both hope to not only instruct their students with the techniques of their style but also with the wisdom to know when to use them. |

Marc began his studies at the age of 7, under the training of the head instructor Charles Francis Farrell and Shen Cheung at their Broomall School. From years of hard work and dedication he has earned the rank of Fourth Degree Black Belt. Through self discipline, determination and motivation he has earned the respect and dedication of his students.
Nancy, now a grandmother of 9, began her training solely for the physical exercise has since earned the rank of Second Degree Black Belt. |
